The Pig & Pastry – cute name, cute business card and cosy ambience. I really liked the floral arrangements, wooden tables and cute mis-matched crockery.
Now, on to the food. We had ‘today’s quiche’ (8.5) which was bacon, gruyere cheese, tomato and caramalised onion, and a pork sausage roll (6). Both were delicious. The lettuces was presented in a very quaint fashion, well dressed, and refreshing in combination with the quiche, lovely pastry too. The sausage roll had good quality pork and was seasoned nicely with herbs and spices.
For an after lunch sweet, we ordered the apple and frangipani tatin and an apple flan with homemade vanilla ice-cream.
I thought the apple and frangipani tatin was competently done, but a tad too sweet! Perhaps cream or ice-cream was needed to balance it out, but even so, it was much sweeter than the apple flan, which I enjoyed much more. beautifully cooked pastry and apples, with a nice golden brown on the top, and the home-made ice-cream was delicious.
