If you want to experience silver service yum cha and Cantonese cuisine you should definitely visit the Summer Pavilion. Silver service yum cha establishments are few and far between these days. wIpVbA1388876372

We first ordered some yum cha items to share these can range between $4-6 SGD ++.

We had har gow (prawn dumplings), siew mai (pork and prawn dumplings), 9KB1DB1388876575steamed pork with blackbean sauce, and the fried taro with pumpkin seeds on top. All were very well done, the meat still had some bite to it, and is not diced too finely, all were very juicy and tasty. Though the fried taro I did enjoy the least out of the whole meal. It didn’t really pop in your mouth in anyway, and not very memorable.

Next we ordered pork in a sweet, sticky sauce with a melon salad. Very nice!

This is the eggplant  and perch hot pot, which comes to the table absolutely sizzling hot still, and is just lovely to eat. The fish is still smooth and succulent, and the eggplant has absorbed all the flavours and sauce.

Then came the deep-fried fish skin, that you dunk into the fish/chicken broth before popping it in your mouth. I would recommend trying this dish. I still rate Tung Lok’s salted egg yolk deep-fried fish skin over this one, but this is done very well too.

Next round was the individual dumpling soup. Which was typically sharkfin dumpling soup, but they have done away with the sharkfin, in an effort to be another restaurant who does not promote the senseless killing of sharks, just for their fins, only to be dumped back into the ocean to perish.

The abalone is a lovely touch, still tender and easy to eat. The broth is similar to the one that comes with the deep-fried fish skin.

Last but not least for the savory dishes was the Baked Marinated Silver Cod fish in Champagne sauce ($20 per person). This was definitely a highlight dish. The cod is baked to absolute perfection, it just slides off in small pieces, is smooth, tender and just about melts in your mouth. The sauce is lovely, sweet, a little tangy and buttery all at once. The Vegetables go really well with the fish and sauce as well, with each taste-bursting mouthful. p6d9wB1388876685

Then for dessert, there are many options, but I do love their redbean pancake. This is done so well. It’s so crispy on the outside, and the red bean is warm and sweet inside. 1Z3l0O1388876711
