I have only been to the Marrickville outlet. There are four other outlets at Surry Hills, Alexandria, neutral Bay, Potts Point. They also have an eatery/wine bar – Wilbur’s Place.
I can recommend the sausage rolls, pies and bread. Today I bought the pork and fennel sausage roll ($4.50) and the beef brisket, mushroom and red wine pie ($5.50). Yum! It is all made with good quality meat, definitely no grizzle or fat in these pies. The pork and fennel sausage roll is well seasoned, you can taste the herbs and the pastry is lovely and flaky. The beef brisket, mushroom and red wine pie has enough rich gravy but also good hearty chunks of beef and mushrooms. I am a fan of chunky, meaty pies, I personally don’t like non-identifiable ground up mince meat(s).
Flourless chocolate cake ($4.50) – really yummy. It is a little dense, moist and chocolately without being too sweet. Very satisfying. It reminds me of a slightly more cake consistency of Adriano Zumbo’s fondant cake. Both are excellent.
Ginger crème brulee tart ($5) – the pastry tastes like it’s made up of wholemeal flour, its flaky and crumbly at the same time and very crispy . The brulee is not too sweet and creamy with a hint of ginger. The ginger is nice because it’s subtle and not too strong. The sugar top is torched to a caramalised dark brown, which forms a hard beautiful sugar layer. It cracks as you cut or bite into it. Worth trying.
The chocolate and raspberry tart ($5), which I don’t have a picture of is also quite good, though I’d recommend the ginger crème brulee tart before this one. It has the same wholemeal flour tart case based which is great. It is then dusted in chocolate just, which really tastes just like milo (tempted to think it is milo!)
